Maasai by 54 Kingdoms features fitted pencil dresses and skirts whose design is inspired by symmetrical patterns and designs associated with warrior shields belonging to the Maasai people of Kenya and Northern Tanzania. Being the first product line for women from the Ananse collection, the underlying cultural and historical theme in these clothes are very prominent.
The name Ananse is originally a very famous character in West African and Caribbean folklore who is also considered to be the godfather of storytelling. View the video below to discover from concept to reality how the design of the Massai warrior shield was deconstructed and weaved into fashion plus the creation of these pieces.
